Raleigh is a fun city with so many activates for people of all ages. Here is a list of some of our favorite local activities perfect for senior citizens in Raleigh North Carolina.
This museum offers more than 14,000 years of North Carolina history for you to explore, from the state’s earliest inhabitants through the 20th century. The Museum Shop, featuring North Carolina crafts, and the on-site restaurant Pharaoh’s at the Museum are open daily. Admission is free, although some special exhibits require a fee. Free parking is available on weekends in the Jones/Edenton Street lot. Museum hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. If you love history and learning new things, this is the museum for you!
2. North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences
The NC Museum of Natural Sciences is the Southeast’s largest natural history museums. This museum features dinosaurs, whale skeletons, live animals, walk-through dioramas, special exhibits, hands-on science education and accessible scientists. There are many different exhibits on display every day. The museum is closed on Mondays, but Tuesday through Sunday, it is open from 11-3. Take some time to explore the many sciences this beautiful world has to offer. General admission is free!
Get ready to experience the Central American tropical dry forest filled with living plants and animals. In this living conservatory you can interact with butterflies, turtles, tarantulas, snakes and even a two-toed sloth. They have many different plants to discover like, the vanilla orchid, pineapple plant, cashew tree and more. Explore North Carolina’s connection to the tropics through migration, shared species and products. The museum is open Tuesday-Sunday 10am-3pm and admission is free!
4. North Carolina Museum of Art
One of the leading art museums in the American South, the North Carolina Museum of Art. The recently renovated NCMA offers a permanent collection spanning more than 5,000 years, a variety of celebrated exhibitions and public programs, an amphitheater for outdoor performances, and the nation’s largest museum park—164 acres of trails and parkland containing major works of art. Come visit this museum on Tuesday-Sunday 10am-3pm admission is free!
Colorful, eclectic, and original, Tipping Paint Gallery features works ranging from classically inspired to contemporary. Located in the heart of Downtown Raleigh’s Warehouse District, the Gallery’s bright and inviting space is a place where the art takes center stage. This museum is perfect for people who love paintings or want to learn more about different types of art. The museum’s hours are 11:30am to 4pm every Thursday through Saturday.
